Vietnamese-origin billionaire singer donates more necessities to pandemic-hit people
Ha Phuong, a Vietnamese-origin singer whose husband is the wealthiest Vietnamese in the US, has again authorized her mother and friends in Vietnam to donate more than 100 tons of necessities and cash to Covid-19 affected people in HCM City.
After Ha Phuong gave more than 3,000 gift boxes and hundreds of tons of food to needy people in Ho Chi Minh City last month, this time her father-in-law – doctor Chu Phu Chung (Dennis Chu) – joined Ha Phuong in doing charity in his home country.
Ha Phuong and Dr. Dennis Chu have donated hundreds of tons of necessities and cash to over 1,000 needy families in Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Dinh and Khanh Hoa provinces, the places where the family of billionaire Chinh Chu – Ha Phuong’s husband – used to live.
Each household last week received a gift bag consisting of 10 kg of rice, 1 box of noodles, 1 kg of sugar, 1 bottle of fish sauce, 1 bottle of soy sauce, 4 boxes of fish, 10 duck eggs, 1 liter of cooking oil and milk.
The confessions of singer Ha Phuong, wife of famous Wall Street billionaire Chinh Chu.
Beauty, talent, wealth, a happy family, and a successful career are what many people desire. Ha Phuong has all of them. It seems like she possesses a dream life. When asked how this was achieved, Phuong replies, “Thank God for giving this to me.” Ha Phuong is born in 1972, a popular Vietnamese singer with a sweet voice and graceful beauty which have been cherished by Vietnamese, especially who love the country’s popular music.
She is the second oldest sister of three singing sisters: Cam Ly and Minh Tuyet, who are also famous in Vietnam and among Overseas Vietnamese. She currently lives in New York with her husband, Chinh Chu – a billionaire on Wall Street, and two daughters. Besides her successful career, Phuong is also known for her kindness. She has participated in many charities, especially for unprivileged children. Despite having a rich life, Ha Phuong is not passive and always wants to improve herself.
Culture Magazin recently chatted with Ha Phuong, “the ageless beauty.”

A Star Who Makes A Difference: Vietnamese Superstar, Ha Phuong
I had the pleasure to interview Vietnamese Superstar, Ha Phuong. Ha Phuong has released twelve solo albums and numerous records throughout Asia and the U.S. She has also delved into the film spectrum releasing her first feature film Finding Julia, in which she stars and produced.
If acting and singing weren’t enough, she is a natural born philanthropist founding the Ha Phuong Foundation, an organization that provides aid to underprivileged children directly by paying for necessities such as surgery, food, clothing, and education.
Ha Phuong Chu Tran’s novel, Finding Julia, was the basis of a major motion picture, also titled Finding Julia. Ha Phuong, or “HP” to her many friends and fans, is a popular actress and singing superstar in her native Vietnam. She now lives in New York but continues to perform globally.
The premise of the book: In Manhattan, Eurasian acting student Julia Chamonix (played by actress and singer Ha Phuong) is unable to enjoy the privileged life she shares with her doting father (Andrew McCarthy). Haunted by the tragic early death of her mother, a former star actress and singer in Vietnam, and likewise haunted by a secret desire she has to hide from the world, Julia struggles in her acting studies under renowned coach Igor (Richard Chamberlain).

‘Finding Julia’ Star Ha Phuong’s Journey Proves Nothing Is Impossible
Already popular in her native land, the Vietnamese American singer-philanthropist aims for fame as an actress with her Academy Award-eligible feature.
Years ago, in Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh City, a 5-year-old girl named Ha Phuong became very ill. Her family was creative but not wealthy, so her father had to borrow money to pay her hospital bills.
She recovered, but when her family couldn’t repay the loans, men came to take the family’s belongings.
“[They] took everything from our house, even our black-and-white TV,” remembers Ha Phuong, tearing up at the memory. “I told myself, when I grow up and I have some money, I will help people in situations like that.”
Known affectionately to all as “HP,” today she is an accomplished recording artist, renowned in her home country. She is also the philanthropist she dreamed of becoming, helping children and young artists on both sides of the Pacific through the Ha Phuong Foundation, which is now in its second decade.
Ha Phuong: a conversation on acting, directing and Vietnam
Having grown up in Orange County, California in an area that is now known as “Little Saigon”, I’ve long had a fascination with Vietnamese culture and the stories of families impacted by the Vietnamese refugee crisis. So when I had the recent opportunity to screen the film Finding Julia, I jumped at the opportunity. I want to say upfront that viewers of this film shouldn’t compare it to the traditional blockbuster movies we are used to seeing these days. The film, loosely based on some of the parts of its star’s life, is a study in relationships, courage, mental illness and survival. Starring Ha Phuong, who also wrote the original screenplay, Andrew McCarthy, and Richard Chamberlain, “Finding Julia” gives us a shocking look into the mind of a talented immigrant who has to adapt not only to a new culture, but also to changing familial circumstances that reopen an old wound. The film’s look at the topic of sexual attraction between family members makes it inappropriate for many viewers, especially teens and children or anyone who has suffered abuse. But because there are so few films written or acted by Asian artists these days, I felt it important to have a discussion with Ha about her work…
Ha Phuong, Asian Superstar in the film, “Finding Julia”
By Jules Lavallee – December 13, 2019
Los Angeles, CA (The Hollywood Times) 12/12/19- Ha Phuong, a petite dynamo with a huge heart and a big name in her native Vietnam is now a deeply entrenched New Yorker. A superstar in parts of Asia, “HP,” as she is known to her friends, is an accomplished actress, singer and now movie producer: her soon-to-be released feature film, a dramatic thriller in which she stars, is called Finding Julia.
Share your upbringing.
Ha Phuong: I was born into a family with a long artistic tradition as well as talent and ambition. My father is musician Tran Quang Hien. In time she, along with her two sisters, Cam Ly and Minh Tuyet, became famous singers of contemporary Vietnamese music, separately and together.
The new motion picture Finding Julia, which had its theatrical release on April 19, well deserved the recent United Artist Feature Film Award it earned for producer Ha Phuong—who also played the lead role of Julia Chamonix, a beautiful young Eurasian aspiring actress in New York City who is caught between two cultures and her own inner demons.
Vietnamese-born actress and singer Ha Phuong more than holds her own with seasoned co-stars Andrew McCarthy and Richard Chamberlain in the recently released feature film, Finding Julia, which she also co-produced. The book is based on her best-selling novel, likewise titled Finding Julia.
Ha Phuong Chu Tran, a singer and actress who has long been a superstar in her native Vietnam, recently made her first English-language acting debut in the feature film Finding Julia. Also an author and producer, “HP,” as she is known to her friends, now has homes in California and New York. Her dream is to be the first Vietnamese actress to play the lead in Miss Saigon on Broadway. This film should make that possibility real for her.
Actress Ha Phuong Chu Tran, star of the recently theatrically released feature film Finding Julia, and her husband, financier Chinh Chu, are dedicated to promoting the arts among young students. Most recently Ha Phuong became a sponsor of the Inaugural Faith, Hope and Charity Gala, presented by Catholic Charities, and being held in Burbank, CA on Saturday, April 27 to benefit the organization’s Immigration and Refugee Resettlement Program.
A new psychological thriller, Finding Julia, was in full theatrical release on April 19 in 25 cities across the country, including Chandler, AZ. Directed by Igor Sunara, the film stars Andrew McCarthy and Richard Chamberlain, and introduces a new talent: Ha Phuong Chu Tran. Ha Phuong also wrote the best-selling book on which the film is based, and has released a video and single of her signature song, “Memories of Love,” from the film’s soundtrack, which is on YouTube. Her website is findingjulia.net
A triple-threat actress, singer, author and movie producer is also a major philanthropist. Ha Phuong Chu Tran has devoted her life—and the major portion of her earnings—to helping promote the arts in young girls and boys in California, New York and Vietnam. Ha Phuong’s first English-speaking role was as the star of the recently released feature film Finding Julia, with co-stars Andrew McCarthy and Richard Chamberlain. The movie was directed by Igor Sunara. Ha Phuong began her acting career starring in Vietnamese musicals, and still records sons and albums regularly in her homeland.
What happens when a beautiful Eurasian aspiring actress leaves her native country and finds herself caught between two cultures and at the mercy of her inner demons and family secrets, which increasing threaten her privileged existence? That’s the premise of Finding Julia, a feature film starring newcomer Ha Phuong, who wrote the book the film is based on. She plays both the young actress and her doomed mother in a career-building dramatic and emotional tour-de-force.
It’s Robin Lori Now: We are so excited to announce… “Finding Julia” starring Asian Superstar Ha Phuong hits theaters on April 19th! The film is based on a book written by Ha Phuong partly about her life. This psychological thriller is about a woman caught between two cultures co-starring Andrew McCarthy and Richard Chamberlain and directed by Igor Sunara.
